Donaldson was the first brand in Europe to license Walt Disney drawings.
Founded in 1983 by Marcy Szwarcburt, the son of a Polish tailor who immigrated to Belgium, the company was initially called Blue Production and aimed to create clothing featuring Disney characters loved by Marcy himself.
“At the time, Mickey Mouse was the symbol of the American dream. A trip to Disneyland in Florida was something unique.”
Today, the company no longer exists. After overcoming the first crisis of the 1990s, caused by a series of fakes from Thailand, it closed permanently in 2008: "Exclusivity no longer exists. Quality has become secondary: many people buy a Mickey Mouse item just for the design. It makes no difference whether they buy it from us or from a chain."
But we like vintage so we disagree.
